ANNAPOLIS, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 2001
South River Technologies, a leading provider of file transfer and file collaboration software, announced today that it has merged with Riverfront Software, developer of the world's premier internet drive mapping software for the Windows operating systems.
The company will operate under the name South River Technologies, LLC., and will offer the WebDrive file transfer and collaboration client. WebDrive provides access to remote servers as if they were local network drives. WebDrive has been commercially available since 1998.
The product supports multiple protocols such as FTP and WebDAV, and enables secure connections using SSL and SSH. WebDAV (Web based Distributed Authoring and Versioning) enables file collaboration over the internet.
"By combining our expertise and resources, we will be able to advance the client side collaboration tools at a much faster pace, while continuing to offer an easy to implement, low cost alternative for secure online file collaboration," said John Glavin, founder of Riverfront Software who will now serve as South River Technologies' EVP of Engineering.
South River Technologies will also continue to do custom software development work, and to provide technologies for other Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to OEM, re-brand or embed in existing products.
"In addition to increasing our momentum in the collaboration sector, this gives us the ability to expand into new areas", says Michael Ryan, founder of South River Technologies.
South River Technologies markets WebIFS, a drive mapping utility. Some of the WebIFS components will be merged into WebDrive, to create the most comprehensive file transfer and collaboration product available. South River Technologies also developed the award-winning Internet Neighborhood and ftpNetDrive products.
