AN XML SPECIFICATION intended to connect a variety of commerce standards into a single framework is scheduled for release within CommerceNet by the end of the month.

At that time its goals seemed outlandishly ambitious. Participants hoped to bundle up numerous aspects of business documents into a sort of super-EDT (Electronic Data Interchange) that would address most aspects of business transactions, from shipping addresses to product availability.
