Tamino 2.3 Now Runs on Sun Solaris and Various Windows Platforms

Tamino 2.3 Up to 10 Times Faster for Complex Queries

Reduces Space Consumption Up to 80% of Original Document

Software AG,

Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Software AG, the largest systems software provider in Europe and a pioneer in XML technologies, announced today the release of Tamino XML Server version 2.3. Tamino 2.3 features enhanced performance and optimized data storage functionality.

Tamino facilitates the transmission, storage and retrieval of data - structured or unstructured. It is the first native XML database to store and process XML data without having to convert it to other formats and store it in relational tables first. As a result, response times are shorter and the setup of the database and the administrative effort required is significantly lower than with other traditional databases.

"Tamino's ability to process data in XML format without the need to convert data guarantees the response times to be up to ten times faster for complex queries," said John Taylor, Software AG's Director of Product Marketing. "Tamino 2.3 heightens our customers optimal ability to deal with the challenges of electronic business and content management based on XML. With Tamino's internal data compression functionality, it has the ability to compress a document up to 80% of its original size for minimal space consumption," continued Taylor.

XML-Journal, a monthly XML-focused publication (http://www.sys-con.com/xml/), tested Tamino 2.3 on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server regarding the Tamino native XML database as a "product that deserves a great deal of attention from the XML community." The product review describes the installation process, details Tamino's architecture and praises the direct storage of XML objects allowing for Tamino's excellent performance. In conclusion, Tamino 2.3's "ability to take XML and store, manage, update, and modify the presentation - all in the same database without changing structure or format, and through one set of interfaces - makes Tamino compelling."

Tamino 2.3 currently runs on:

- Windows NT 4.0,

- Windows 2000 Professional,

- Windows 2000 Server,

- Windows 2000 Advanced Server,

- Sun Solaris, and

- OS/390.

Additional platform support of Linux, AIX, and HP-UX will follow within the coming months.
