Enhanced Functions Deliver Increased Flexibility
for Existing IT Infrastructure and Solutions
Software AG, Inc., a pioneer in XML solutions, today announced Tamino XML Server 4.1,
Along with a breadth of other new features and enhancements, version 4.1 adds support for the newest XML standards so it works well with a wide variety of IT infrastructures.
Tamino 4.1 offers companies better performance, significantly shorter implementation times and investment security for their system landscapes. In addition, version 4.1 gives developers a number of new interfaces and upgraded tools to help them quickly build new solutions and applications.
Tamino is an important component for reliable enterprise content management, data exchange, digital libraries, Web services and mobile computing.
"Software AG is committed to helping companies maximize their existing IT investments and future-proof their systems," said Gary Voight, president and CEO of Software AG, Inc. "We enhanced Tamino XML Server to meet the extensive market requirements of the increasing number of companies that are deploying XML-based solutions."
Tamino 4.1 offers new enhancements and functionality based on XML standards such as XML Schema, XML namespaces, XML Signatures and XQuery. In addition to the extended support for these open standards, Tamino 4.1 also provides:
-- High availability and reliability. With hardware-based backup/restore capabilities, new replication services and clustering support, version 4.1 offers excellent availability and reliability. -- Transaction accuracy and integrity. New Tamino 4.1 offers support for the two-phase commit (2PC) protocol to maintain data integrity and accuracy within the distributed databases through synchronized locking of all pieces of a transaction. -- Enhanced security. Version 4.1 offers enhanced security services with internal authentication features, expanded authorization functionality. -- Ease of use and system flexibility. New support for the Microsoft Management Console, and enhancements to the tools provided with Tamino XML Server, improve the productivity and effectiveness of administrators, XML database and XML application developers.
New Productivity Enhancements for Developers
A variety of services in Tamino 4.1 have been enhanced to increase productivity for application designers and developers, including the following:
-- New API. Tamino 4.1 can be accessed directly without going
through a Web server so developers can access the server from
a broad range of development environments and system
architectures. The current version supports the main services
and interfaces of Microsoft .NET, Java(TM), EJB, SOAP, UDDI,
XML:DB, C, JavaScript and HTTP Client API for ActiveX.
-- Tamino WebDAV server enhancements. Version management of
stored XML documents and consistent merging of all changed and
versioned documents is now possible with Tamino 4.1. The
WebDAV protocol facilitates controlled internal and external
access to the server, so that all stored XML documents can be
created and edited from a workstation anywhere in the world
with Internet access. This delivers considerable benefits for
teamwork in large collaborative environments, such as
editorial systems.
-- Node level updates. Performance is increased because the
system now uses the new W3C (World Wide Web Consortium)
standard, Xquery, to read only small sections of large
documents to apply changes instead of the entire XML document.
Load on the server and network is reduced considerably and
documents and editing is more effective and efficient.
Tamino XML Server 4.1 supports Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Support of 64-bit systems and additional operating systems, such as Sun Solaris(TM), HP Unix, AIX(R), Linux and OS/390(R), is planned for the second quarter of 2003.
