NetScan v1.5 now supports all major mail systems;
provides walk-up-fax and convenience copy capabilities
Kofax Image Products Monday announced NetScan v1.5, the second generation of the industry's first network
NetScan v1.5 includes a number of new features that further extend the capabilities of the product, making it more attractive to a wider audience of corporate workgroups.
With version 1.5, Kofax has extended NetScan's e-mail support to include all major mail applications. In addition to Microsoft Mail and Lotus cc:Mail, Version 1.5 now includes support for Lotus Notes Mail, Novell GroupWise and Microsoft Exchange, thus extending shared scanning to workgroups on a broader scale.
Integration has also been added with RightFAX's LAN fax software, enabling walk-up-fax capabilities via the scanner. In addition, Kofax has extended the product's already rich feature set to include instant scan-to-print capabilities. Other new features include support for the new HP ScanJet 5p color scanner and enhancements to the NetScan viewer application.
"With the integration of RightFAX and NetScan, corporate workgroups will have the additional convenience of walk-up-fax capabilities," said Bradley Feder, president of RightFAX. "Through NetScan v1.5, individuals can conveniently scan images and fax anywhere, while leveraging existing LAN fax capabilities of RightFAX."
First released in October, 1996, NetScan enables users to connect a standalone Hewlett-Packard ScanJet scanner directly to a Novell NetWare network to turn the scanner into a shared, networked device. Networked e-mail applications are used to route image files to users on the LAN or across the Internet.
Product Enhancements
NetScan v1.5 includes significant enhancements that provide increased convenience to workgroups while extending NetScan's unique capabilities to more corporations. These enhancements include: -0-
-- Certification with all major mail packages -- NetScan now fully
supports cc:Mail, MS Mail, MS Exchange, Lotus Notes Mail, and
Novell GroupWise. As a result, routing scanned images is now
available to nearly all of corporate America.
-- Walk-up-fax -- By integrating NetScan with RightFAX, corporate
workgroups can use the scanner as a front end to a RightFAX
network fax server. Now, individuals can use an HP ScanJet and
NetScan to fax scanned documents through RightFAX.
-- Scan-to-print -- NetScan v1.5 also provides workgroups with an
accessible alternative to the traditional departmental copy
machine. Through NetScan v1.5's scan-to-print function,
workgroups can route scanned documents directly to a printer,
creating a locally installed "convenience copier."
-- Viewer enhancements -- A new "save as" function allows for
saving image files in different formats. Other enhancements
include improved grayscale viewing and printing quality.
Pricing and Availability
NetScan v1.5 is available now through a network of national
distributors, including DataComm Warehouse, Ingram Micro, MicroAge,
PC Connection, and Tech Data. The product carries a suggested list
price of $895 (U.S.). For registered users of NetScan v1.0, Kofax is
