CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- GlobalCerts, a leading provider of secure messaging appliance solutions, announced today that York County, Pennsylvania has deployed the GlobalCerts SecureMail Gateway(TM) to provide email encryption services to the employees of the York County departments that qualify as covered entities under HIPAA.

York County, Pennsylvania is located in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic corridor, and is proudly considered one of the most progressive and fastest growing areas in the nation. The County is comprised of seventy-two municipalities served by forty-four county departments with 2,500 employees in total.

The York County Department of Information Technologies plays a critical role in maintaining the operating efficiency of the various County offices and agencies. Known for its innovative and forward-thinking approach to adopting new technologies that create a "work smarter, not harder" desktop environment, the York County Department of Information Technologies had been ready to implement new measures for protecting confidential data transmitted over the wide-area network that link the County departments.

In conjunction with the York County HIPAA Steering Committee, the Information Technologies team identified an immediate requirement to protect email messages containing electronic private health information. To ensure that County department communications comply with HIPAA regulations, the York County Department of Information Technologies began looking for a secure messaging solution.
