I’m always looking to provide you, my readers, with the best resources. The latest one I’ve discovered and want to recommend is the online community “IdeaTango”. IdeaTango.com was founded by Bryan Daigle, who experienced first hand the wealth of misinformation facing first-time inventors.

“I come from an inventor background,” Daigle shared. “I know the hurdles inventors face. When I came up with my first idea, I had no idea what to do next. The only sources available for inventors I had been exposed to were those companies advertising on late night television with 1-800 numbers.”

Thankfully, Daigle recognized some red flags early on, before he dumped too much money into the fraud scheme.

“I thought, ‘There has to be a better way’. So I decided to create a web-based resource center to help inventors avoid the trap I did.”

Idea Tango’s intent is to help inventors be more successful. And they achieve this through three strategies.

“We connect inventors with information, with tools such as virtual tradeshows, contests, and discussion forums, and with reputable service providers like inventor coaches, patent attorneys, and manufacturers who can help them along the way.”

Idea Tango also provides a newsletter to those who subscribe, which informs inventors of upcoming shows and contests and announces changes made at Idea Tango. For example, the web-site recently launched a book store. The store informs inventors of the best books for them and their various needs.

I think IdeaTango.com is a great resource, and I highly recommend checking it out. Daigle has amassed a powerful team of well-respected and highly successful inventors to help him provide the very best advice.

  • Patent to Market Success: A Step by Step Guide to Cashing in on Your Patent. Interview with author Matt Yubas

I had the pleasure of interviewing Matt Yubas, author of “Patent to Market Success: A Step by Step Guide to Cashing in on Your Patent.” Yubas was motivated to write the book after discovering how many inventors never profit from their patents. Unfortunately, I too know that this occurs more often than not. If you’ve recently filed a patent for your invention but are unsure about what to do next, this interview is especially relevant to you.

  • Get invention help in Oregon with MIPO.

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Kedma Ough, executive director of MIPO, or the Micro Inventor’s Program of Oregon. MIPO and I share the same goal– to help inventors bring their products to market. The non-profit business center has pledged to provide independent inventors with the education and resources needed to be successful.

  • How to Avoid Getting Scammed

I recently read an article on Inventor’s Digest that was intended to help inventors avoid getting scammed. It listed many “red flags” that inventors should be aware of when working with an invention promotion company or someone who wanted to represent their product. Although the information was thorough, I felt the article really missed the bigger picture and the more important message: self-sufficiency and self-empowerment. If you don’t want to get scammed or taken advantage of, you will need to educate yourself. If you don’t, you’ll always be at a disadvantage and you’ll always be vulnerable to scamming!

What we post on the Internet stays around for a long, long time. Before I make any major changes, I always consult a group of trusted advisors. These advisors are individuals who know me well – they understand what I’m about and what I’m trying to achieve. And they definitely have my best interests in mind.
