Business/Technology & Entertainment Editors

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 2000

Industry innovators collaborate to offer

enhanced video navigation service

MediaSite, the pioneer in providing automated video management solutions on the Internet,

and VITAC, the leader in providing captioning services, today announced a strategic alliance. Working together, VITAC and MediaSite will deliver enhanced captioning functionality enabling fully automated and adaptable segmentation, online search and navigation.

MediaSite's advanced technology catalogs content, breaking it down into segments that can be located and retrieved easily over the Internet. MediaSite's WebFinder (TM) allows users to search for video clips, images, text and audio from a standard Web browser.

MediaSite and VITAC have jointly developed a proprietary technology to allow simultaneous captioning and advanced "tagging" of video. The breakthrough solution will bring customized indexing tools to content owners, and will speed up the conversion of film and video to the Web. MediaSite and VITAC customers will control how they make their programs available on the Internet and will have the ability to create profitable e-commerce applications around those programs. End-users will gain greater personalization options. They will have the ability to retrieve the exact video segments they need without having to wade through lengthy transcripts and watch long playbacks of irrelevant clips.

"MediaSite recognizes that high quality captioning is key in transitioning traditional video to the Internet in an accurate and efficient manner," said Krishna Pendyala, co-founder of MediaSite. "MediaSite is eager to develop a classification system with VITAC that will add customized personalization options to its video automation solutions."

"MediaSite and VITAC's alliance will allow consumers to locate video on the Internet the same way they now find text using search engines like Yahoo!," said VITAC President Joe Karlovits. "We are confident that content owners will benefit from the heightened functionality and economic possibilities that VITAC's automated captioning features bring to MediaSite's video management tools."
