PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 16, 2001
iSun Networks today announced that Frostburg State University (Frostburg, MD) has selected the iSun Virtual Student Union to be its end-user software for online communications and student life services.
iSun Networks, a leader in software infrastructure, is devoted to improving affinity group interaction through technology and content. Frostburg State University (FSU) is the first four-year university and the second higher education institution to elect iSun's premier product-the Virtual Student Union, as its complete online solution for students, faculty and administration.
The Virtual Student Union, or VSU, is a hybrid browser application for rapid development of dynamic virtual communities for colleges and universities.
"Every member of our university will not simply visit a Web site, but iSun's VSU will create a virtual community," said Dr. Catherine R. Gira, president of Frostburg State University. "Students, faculty, administrators and alumni will now be connected in a unique, technological way."
"We're very excited to sign on a state university such as Frostburg State, with its remarkable history and reputation for advancement," said iSun CEO Donn Clendenon. "Frostburg State University is a leader in bringing forth the best possible technologies to its students, with its exquisite technology plan and Port-Per-Pillow access. FSU is a perfect institution for a next-generation product like the iSun Virtual Student Union, because, unlike a simple portal or a static dot-com, our VSU benefits students, faculty and administrators with every online experience through a continuous flow of information and real-time communication."
iSun's Virtual Student Union provides an immersive user experience, drawing upon the powers of sight and sound to aid students, faculty and administration in their daily lives on and off campus.
Students will be able to communicate with faculty through online office hours, order books, have a discussion with classmates about coursework, and even listen to their campus radio station, all from their computer.
Frostburg State University has also chosen PeopleSoft's enterprise software for use on their back-end, which complements the VSU perfectly, as PeopleSoft recently selected the iSun Virtual Student Union as its preferred solution for Internet-based student services. FSU's Virtual Student Union will emulate the school environment and feeling with campus-specific content, tone and even colors.
"Initially, we were in the market for a portal, until we came across the Virtual Student Union, offering much more," said Roger Bruszewski, Vice President of Administration and Finance at FSU. "The VSU platform will soon be our campus' main entrance to the virtual world."
