"MIT's recent launch of the OpenCourseWare program demonstrates their cutting-edge approach to education," said Tom Pinckney, CTO and co-founder of Vividon. "It is especially rewarding to me to see our success come full circle. The early design of our product was conceived while I was a graduate student at MIT -- now my alma mater is deploying streaming applications that simply were not possible several years ago."
The Vividon SDA streaming appliances are based on DARPA funded research conducted at the MIT Laboratory of Computer Science to develop high performance IO systems using commercial, off-the-shelf hardware. This lab also served as an early incubator for Akamai and Cisco SitePath in the late 1990s.
The Vividon SDA system enables new levels of quality and scalability in distributed learning. "Organizations increasingly seek innovative tools to help them shift from simple content offerings to a more comprehensive e-learning environment," said Gerry Kaufhold, Principal Analyst with In-Stat/MDR. "There is a clear need for the robust streaming infrastructure and economic advantages offered by the Vividon streaming delivery platform."
