IBM's Advanced Technology Lab Powered by Advent Networks Ultraband.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 20, 2003

IBM (NYSE:IBM) selects Advent Networks'(tm) Ultraband(R) Platform to support their Advanced Technology Laboratory.

The IBM Advanced Technology Lab is one of the first production users of

the Ultraband Platform recently introduced in Austin by Time Warner Cable. TWC added the Ultraband solution to their Road Runner Business Class offerings to provide low latency, constant-bit-rate data service over cable to commercial customers.

The Ultraband solution allows Time Warner to deliver converged video, voice and data services over a single, dedicated IP connection. This new service bridges the gap between current DOCSIS offerings and fiber-based technologies and allows cable operators to penetrate the phone companies' lucrative T1 market. Now, IBM and others can achieve multiple T1 speeds at a fraction of the cost of dedicated fiber.

"Advent's Ultraband technology gives us the guaranteed bandwidth we need to showcase our advanced networking applications," remarked Bill Bodin, Senior Technical Staff Manager of IBM's Advanced Technology Lab. "We have five megabits per second of dedicated bandwidth coming into the Lab using Advent's gear. That's enough bandwidth to support DVD-quality streaming video and voice simultaneously."

"We are very excited about the opportunity to enhance IBM's ability to innovate. The advances made in their Lab today will be in our homes tomorrow," said Advent's VP, Strategic Development, David Marshack.
