What Your Online Presence Says About Your Business

Tuesday, November 10 2009

I’m a little troubled by the number of entrepreneurial retailers that don’t have an online presence.  Or if they do, it’s static.

Most consumers today will visit your website long before they ever step foot in your store.

Consumers will visit your website to find out what brands you carry.  To find out where you’re located, what your hours are, and what number to reach you at.  We’ll go to your website to look at products for sale to make sure you have what we need.

And that’s how adults use websites.  Tweens, teens and young adults are far more likely to shop exclusively online than any other demographic and want up to the minute information via Twitter or Facebook.

So why don’t you have a website?  Or why is your website stuck in the 90’s?

It’s time to not only up the ante by making your website a little more dynamic, you should also get moving on ecommerce, selling your goods online as well.  It’s simply the point of entry now for any retailer.  And social networking is only adding to the experience through Twitter accounts, Facebook pages and more.

Of course it’s overwhelming.  And the big question I get is how do I manage all of this, plus run a business.

It simply takes planning.  The daunting task is setting it all up.  From there, the maintenance only takes minutes a day.  So set a goal that you want to revamp your website in, say three months.  That will give you plenty of time to gather your thoughts, put a plan in place, and get that new website up and running.
