In my recent post, How Twitter Can Aid You In Surviving The Recession, I discussed five ways you could use Twitter to improve your business.
Now, courtesy of a tweet by fellow Allbusiness.com blogger, Denise (Just For Small Business) O’Berry, (follow her here) comes a link to the blog Digital Tip that discusses the absolute worst way a business could use Twitter.
Do you remember how, when there’s a commercial on for something that may be a little (or a lot) dangerous, they’ll flash a graphic on the screen that says, “Don’t try this at home?”
Well, don’t use Twitter the way Habitat did at work. As you can see from the examples of tweets listed in the post, people are not happy.
This “strategy” is not going to help them win customers. It’s only damaging their reputation and any impact on customer loyalty is bound to be negative.
Review my earlier post. Where Habitat erred is that they tried to fool people. Second, they didn’t attempt to provide any value to people. To successfully market your business on Twitter, you need to participate in the conversation as I blogged about in my earlier post.
Bottom line: Avoid Habitat’s example like the plague.

Glenn
