Blogging Can Boost Your Business

Wednesday, October 8 2008

Does your business have a Facebook page, MySpace page, or a blog? No? Chances are you’re leaving out some key marketing strategies. In this age of search engines and social networking, the business owner must be ahead of the curve to promote business services, which means utilizing all the available tools on the Web.
Forrester Research claims social networking and media sites are the fastest growing tools in marketing. Social networking websites are also the fastest growing segment of the Internet and blogs are competing with traditional newspapers as a source of information. Popularity alone makes social networking sites and blogs a good means to promote your business by boosting your company’s Web presence and increasing the chances of landing higher on a Google search, or by attracting “accidental” visitors to your website.
By writing informative blogs with key words, you can increase traffic to your site since Google and other search engines love blogs due to their constantly updated content. Niche visitors will find their way to your site through searches and chances are some of those visitors will turn into customers.
For the Big Business contest winner Jennifer Lyle, owner of Software Testing Solutions (STS), a blog could enhance her area of expertise said Elizabeth Kanna, who is helping to lead the branding transformation of STS. By writing informative blogs about testing compliance for hospitals, Lyle could potentially pull in some additional “accidental” customers.
While websites such as MySpace and Facebook have been a hit for social communication, they are also becoming way to promote business. MySpace has not only become a hub for young kids, or a way to promote bands, but a tool for businesses. With its exponential growth, the coming years promises to hold more opportunity for businesses to explore MySpace self promotion.
Also, social media sites like Reddit, Digg, and Del.icio.us allow you to share your favorite websites with potential clients and business partners by commenting on, uploading and ranking different newsworthy articles.
Facebook has largely been seen as a place to share photos and reunite with old friends, but now the social networking site is emerging as a powerful way for businesses to spread news and promote brand presence. Facebook can currently be used for recruiting, selling and even financing.
While older forms of business promotion still hold value, new opportunities for marketing are constantly springing up. It’s up to the savvy business owner to take advantage of our shifting technological landscape to market their company successfully.
