Charge-coupled device to compress image data.(Brief Article)

JVC has launched a digital video camera which, the company claims, can record animated images on a MultiMediaCard (MMC), and record images in the optimum file size for subsequent distribution by electronic mail (e-mail).

The new camera has a 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) progressive scan, charge-coupled device (CCD) with 680 000 pixels. Before it can be recorded onto a MMC, image data is recorded on a mini-tape and then compressed by JVC's own technology into a 200 Kb file at maximum.
