LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 2000
MUSICBLITZ, a music and technology company that funds artists to record exclusive new music and video content, has given heavy metal music a new stomping ground in cyberspace
METALBLITZ is simultaneously launching as an online community (http://www.metalblitz.com) and FM radio show featuring world premieres, interactive features and exclusive music from popular metal acts. Some of these artists include Motorhead, Biohazard, Kittie, Static-X, Nashville Pussy, Dio, Downset, W.A.S.P. and many others. All METALBLITZ exclusive music is available as free MP3 downloads on the METALBLITZ Web site.
The FM radio show airs every Saturday from 9-10 p.m. PT on the top-rated Howard Stern affiliate station 97.1 KLSX-FM in Los Angeles. It will also be simulcast on the METALBLITZ Web site.
"The radio show is a complete and fluid extension of METALBLITZ online," explained MUSICBLITZ Founder and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Nakao. "While the Internet is a great place for fans to obtain music, traditional radio is still the best way to reach listeners and help them discover what new music is out there."
"It's been too many years since there was a dedicated hard rock format on the air in Los Angeles," added Bret Moore, MUSICBLITZ's vice president of product development. "Heavy metal needs its own place online and on the airwaves, and MUSICBLITZ is stepping in to help some of the most respected metal artists create new material and get it to their fans."
"Motorhead has seen it all. Disco, punk, boy bands, 8-tracks, vinyl, long hair and no hair. All this has come and gone, but we're still here, so we normally don't get too worked up about the newest bandwagon," said Lemmy from Motorhead. "MUSICBLITZ offered us something different -- not just a digital download, but airplay on a 50,000-watt radio station and a true enthusiasm for the music. In a business of broken promises and exaggerated expectations, we got a pleasant surprise in MUSICBLITZ."
METALBLITZ is the third in a series of genre-specific communities that MUSICBLITZ has created to provide great new music to under-serviced niche audiences. Currently, the other communities are REGGAEBLITZ (http://www.reggaeblitz.com) and BLUESBLITZ (http://www.bluesblitz.com).
Each site features free exclusive music from established artists alongside commentary from professional music journalists, a resource guide to local concerts and radio programs, and a comprehensive list of the best free music downloads available online.
