IBM to Buy Informix Database Business for $1 Billion.(Informix Software Inc.)(Brief...

Strengthening its position in the burgeoning distributed database market, Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM Corp. announced it will acquire Menlo Park, Calif.-based Informix Software Inc., Informix Corp.'s database business, in a cash transaction valued at $1 billion. The acquisition is subject to Informix shareholder and regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2001.
