PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 1996--Legato Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:LGTO), a leader in the enterprise storage management software market, today announced the introduction of a new high performance storage management product line-NetWorker Power Edition.
This new product
Power Edition is a specialized adaptation of Legato technology that dramatically improves backup/restore performance on a local data server, relative to the standard NetWorker product which is optimized for network-wide performance involving potentially hundreds of clients across multiple types of platforms. With Power Edition, Legato combines its enterprise-strength NetWorker technology and storage management expertise to deliver high performance solutions that can be optimized for each hardware platform and customer application. With this announcement, Legato Systems is launching the availability of Power Edition platforms for Solaris and HP-UX initially. Both versions offer support for Oracle, Informix and SAP's R/3 on Oracle.
"Most customers will find that the combination of NetWorker and BusinesSuite will meet the majority of their performance needs. (See related announcement, "Legato Unveils New BusinesSuite Product Line.") However, a small but growing segment of our customer base is seeking support for terabyte-class applications with very demanding storage management requirements, including restricted backup windows, 100% availability goals, and rapid disaster recovery," said Kent Smith, chief operating officer of Legato Systems, Inc. "The interrelationship of these performance requirements, and the complexity of the application and hardware environment, requires a highly customized approach, such as Power Edition, to achieve the best possible results," Smith concluded.
In addition to Power Edition software, Legato's high performance solution includes a consultancy offering which guides customers in the optimal selection of hardware, software, and policies to achieve the customer's performance and budget objectives. Further, Legato will offer implementation consulting to complete the installation and offer on-going tuning recommendations. Legato believes this approach is the best way to deliver solutions for these complex new environments at an affordable total cost.
Power Edition will initially be available only from Legato. Later in 1997, Legato partners will be certified to offer Power Edition, including Power Edition consulting services, in order to give customers the widest possible choice of providers. OEM partners are also being encouraged to offer the Power Edition option for their platforms.
Availability and Pricing
NetWorker Power Edition for Solaris will ship in December, with Power Edition for HP-UX following early in 1997. Pricing will be announced at first customer shipment.
