RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 1996--Software AG, a dynamic leader in the growing data warehouse market, today announced that SourcePoint, its Windows-based data warehouse population tool, was selected by Datamation as a finalist for the data warehousing "Product of the Year Award."
SourcePoint is the industry's first product to simultaneously automate the extraction, transport and population of a data warehouse through its innovative Parallel Data Acquisition technology, reducing the cost of ongoing data warehouse management.
The Datamation Product of the Year Award is awarded annually to products and companies that best serve the needs of enterprise computing professionals. Other candidates for this year's data warehousing category include Red Brick Warehouse XTP, (finalist), and SAS 6.11, (category winner).
"SourcePoint's Parallel Data Acquisition technology offers an alternative to manually populating a data warehouse," said Richard Rist, director of Software AG's Open Data Warehouse Program. "It is further evidence of Software AG's commitment to provide customers with a comprehensive data warehouse program that solves their information needs."
SourcePoint enables users to build data warehouses using parallel processes to isolate the target DBMS from the extraction and transport mechanism, minimize the need to create files, reduce the potential for errors, and ensure the data integrity while reducing storage requirements. By using SourcePoint, users can significantly reduce the amount of time needed to populate a data warehouse, by as much as 60 percent.
This is the second time Software AG has been recognized by Datamation for a technically superior product. Last year, Software AG's ESPERANT, its SQL query and reporting tool, received the 1994 Datamation "Editor's Choice Award."
