RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 1995--Software AG, a leading developer of client/server application development tools, databases and middleware, today announced the availability of an optimized version of ADABAS D that leads the industry in price/performance when paired with Digital Equipment
ADABAS D has been optimized to take advantage of the very large memory addressibility (VLM64) available only on AlphaSever 8000 systems and Digital UNIX. This new version of ADABAS D allows a larger portion of the database to reside in memory, dramatically increasing application performance (over 90x faster than 32-bit implementations.) ADABAS D also supports multi-gigabyte (10+ gigabytes of RAM) main memory data caching, resulting in faster access to critical data and less time spent moving data to and from disks.
"Digitial's very large memory technology makes database applications significantly faster, enabling businesses to efficiently capture and utilize the vital information needed for dynamic business decisions," said David MacSwain, senior vice president of marketing and technology at Software AG. "VLM64 technology is a strategic choice for data warehousing and mission-critical OLTP applications. ADABAS D's technical efficiency, low-cost and ease-of-use provide a proven VLM64 database for data warehousing and other strategic business systems."
"Customers can now enjoy the performance advantages of ADABAS D implemented on Alpha VLM64 systems," said James O'Gara, vice president of the Database Marketing Group at Digital. "We are especially excited about the interest shown by new prospects who now view the ADABAS D/Alpha VLM64 combination as an extremely cost-effective foundation for enterprise-wide applications."
ADABAS D with VLM64 technology on an AlphaServer 8000 is ideally suited for co-existence with existing mainframe environments. In comparison to traditional On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) and data warehousing environments, this powerful combination can show ten times or more performance improvements over mainframes.
ADABAS D, with unrivaled scalability from Windows NT to 64-bit Digital UNIX, allows customers to choose the environment that best fits their processing requirements and budgets. In August 1995, Software AG announced the industry's most aggressive pricing for a RDBMS product and was the first vendor to offer the same pricing for both UNIX and Windows NT versions. Customers realize long-term savings through low-cost of ownership and the ease-of-use features built into ADABAS D.
About ADABAS D
ADABAS D is the first fully relational RDBMS to offer advanced data distribution capabilities in a robust easy-to-use package. ADABAS D is designed to enable customers to concentrate on building solutions rather than worrying about the administrative overhead and technical issues associated with other relational database products. It is an open, easy-to-administer RDBMS which offers database replication, two-phase commit and both Oracle and DB2 compatibility modes. These features enable database administrators to easily build, large, distributed business-critical applications or departmental decision support systems. ADABAS D is also an engine utilized by SAP's highly successful R/3 client/server software, and it is the only Windows NT, NIST-certified SAP RDBMS engine.
Pricing and Availability
ADABAS D with VLM64 support is available today at no extra cost for Digital UNIX customers. ADABAS D pricing is $2500 per server and $150 per user or client; a single user copy is priced at $400. All prices are quoted in US dollars.
