CSC signs global outsourcing pact with Guinness PLC.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1995--Computer Sciences Corp. (NYSE:CSC) Thursday announced its selection by Guinness PLC as the company's preferred worldwide outsourcing supplier for information technology services.

CSC also announced its first pact under the agreement: a 10-year outsourcing

contract with United Distillers in the U.K., a unit of Guinness.

With annual revenue of about $7.5 billion, Guinness is a global leader in the production, distribution and marketing of spirits and beer. Its operating units span North America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and South America.

"This contract is a landmark global outsourcing agreement for us," said CSC Chief Executive Officer Van B. Honeycutt. "Our goal is to help Guinness make the most of advanced technologies in their drive to meet the challenge of an increasingly competitive worldwide brewing and spirits industry."

Honeycutt added that over the next two years, CSC will meet with each of the different units within Guinness PLC's two operating companies, Guinness Brewing Worldwide and United Distillers, to present the case for outsourcing.

The first unit to formally sign an outsourcing pact with CSC is United Distillers in the U.K. Under the 10-year agreement, CSC will manage and upgrade the company's information technology resources including mainframe operations, applications development and desktop services.

As part of the agreement, CSC will acquire United Distillers' information technology assets and take over the lease of its data center in Edinburgh, Scotland. In addition, 56 of its employees will join CSC.

"We chose CSC as our strategic information technology partner for several reasons," said Ken Hanna, worldwide finance director for United Distillers. "CSC has the technology expertise and full span of services that our business requires. In addition, the cultural fit is right. The compatibility of the two companies makes for a strong team."

In a separate systems integration pact, CSC is also currently helping United Distillers Europe better serve clients by developing a single pan-European information system. The new system will support the streamlining of United Distillers' current multicompany organization in Europe, giving it more control of inventory to support customer needs.

With headquarters in London, Guinness has brewing interests in 46 countries and sells beer in 130 countries. Its distilled products are made in Scotland, the United States, Australia, Germany and many other countries. United Distillers, the spirits company, employs 10,000 people and markets more than 100 brands, including Johnnie Walker and Dewar's Scotch whiskies and Gordon's and Tanqueray gins. Guinness Brewing Worldwide, which employs 12,000 people, brews Guinness stout along with other well-known brands like Red Stripe, and Cruzcampo in Spain.

Computer Sciences had $3.1 billion in annual revenues for the 12 months ended Dec. 30, 1994, 55 percent of which came from commercial clients and the rest from the U.S. government. The company has headquarters in El Segundo and 31,000 employees in 575 offices worldwide. CSC provides clients with a wide range of professional services including management consulting, business reengineering, information systems consulting and integration, and outsourcing.
