SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 1995--Amdahl Corp. today announced that the first three 5995-12670M 12-way multiprocessors, each capable of delivering over 500 MIPS of processing power, have been installed at large customers in the U.S.
The machines are the most powerful System/390
Two of the systems are being used in a manufacturing company and one in a financial services company, where information technology is used for competitive advantage. Applications running on the processors include inventory control for just-in-time manufacturing and credit-card transaction and verification processing.
"The 5995-12670M 12-way makes Amdahl the 'Top Gun' and uncontested System/390 capacity leader," said Meta Group's Carl Greiner, vice president and service director of Enterprise Data Center Strategies. "Amdahl's 12-way is a 'must consider' for the high-end user not only because of its size, but also because it offers the best software value."
Amdahl's 5995-12670M 12-way multiprocessors are the highest-capacity System/390 mainframes available anywhere in the world today, making them ideal for enterprise customers such as those with memory-constrained CICS applications. They can be configured with up to 4,096 MB of main storage and 8,192 MB of expanded storage and can handle up to 512 parallel and ESCON I/O channels. In addition, the Amdahl Multiple Domain Feature(TM) (MDF(TM)), standard on all 5995M processors, provides exceptional levels of performance and flexibility. Also standard on 5995M processors, ConServ(TM) provides the highest level of concurrent preventive and corrective maintenance available in the industry, allowing an advanced level of service and the delivery of consistent system resources.
"We are very pleased to see our largest, most advanced processors used by global enterprises for mission-critical applications," said William Flanagan, Amdahl vice president, compatible systems marketing and business management. "More 12-ways are scheduled to be installed in the first quarter of 1995."
