WATERBURY, Vt.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 2000
Jim Prevo, Vice President and CIO of Green Mountain Coffee, Inc. (NASDAQ:GMCR) has been recognized as one of Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2000. This award recognizes the top 100 IT (Information Technology) Leaders who have had a powerful impact upon their company's future through their innovative adoption of technologies. In searching for the technology and business executives who best personify IT leadership, Computerworld focused on those whose "business vision, entrepreneurial spirit, managerial successes or aggressive pursuit of leading-edge IT truly represent the highest ideals of technology professionals." The awards were presented at a ceremony during the Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leaders Conference in Palm Desert, California, held June 19-21, 2000.
Through 1996, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters had been operating on internally developed applications that were struggling to keep up with the Company's near 30% annual revenue growth. Prevo championed the search for a new, more fully integrated software package, that would add needed functionality to support Green Mountain's wholesale, retail, and e-commerce business channels. Over the subsequent three years, he shepherded the installation of PeopleSoft's Enterprise Resource Planning system through and around a variety of potential obstacles, including online sales functions that didn't operate properly, and servers that were nearly overwhelmed by the new workload demands.
"For the Premier 100, Computerworld set out on a groundbreaking, ambitious project to define who the most influential `IT Leaders' are and what makes them tick," said Maryfran Johnson, editor-in-chief of Computerworld. "The progress that Green Mountain Coffee, Inc. has made under Jim Prevo fit the criteria for him to be counted among Computerworld's Premier 100."
On receiving his award from Computerworld, Jim Prevo said, "I am honored to be a recipient of the Computerworld Premier 100 Award. The recipient list is comprised of IT leaders from some of the most respected names in business," continued Prevo. "I feel the award recognizes the hard work of everyone at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, and the culture of our company, more than me as an individual. Our culture and the work ethic of my associates in all areas of the company, have created an environment where we do exceptional work while maintaining a balance of work and home life, and a commitment to social responsibility. Green Mountain Coffee Roasters is a world-class company in a small but fast growing package."
