MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 11, 2000
Unisys Corporation today announced that it was awarded the follow-on contract to operate and maintain New Jersey's Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS).
The contract is worth $169.2
Unisys will enhance the system by providing access to advanced technology, including a large-scale decision support system, technical help desk services, a call-tracking system, automated workflow applications and a fraud and abuse case management system. As a result, these enhancements will provide the state with the latest tools to manage their programs and facilitate more effective and efficient communication with providers. Additionally, Unisys will provide resources to staff a technical problem resolution and research unit, a Medicaid provider enrollment department, a technical help desk and a fraud and abuse unit.
Unisys will develop a Web site that enables providers to electronically receive claim forms and submit enrollment applications, which will help the State keep up with the speed of the Internet. To assist Medicaid providers directly and ensure the public has quick access to the most current information, Unisys also will publish non-sensitive Medicaid information on the World Wide Web, such as provider bulletins, newsletters, Medicaid alerts and directories.
The State awarded the final contract to Unisys after an exhaustive evaluation of the company's technical qualifications, enhancement proposals, project staff, corporate background, past performance, price and other criteria. Under the contract, Unisys will provide the requested services with support from teammates Oracle, Codman Group, UPI, MicroStrategy, e-Services, Regulus, FileNet and Virtual.
"As the original architect of this system, we demonstrated to New Jersey a core domain advantage and an extensive knowledge of the state's Medicaid requirements," said Paul Kruelle, vice president of Unisys U.S. Federal Government Group's architecture, consulting and development practice. "By successfully modifying New Jersey's system for Y2K, integrating additional technical enhancements and maintaining their overall systems, Unisys has proven our expertise in the Medicaid arena. We look forward to enhancing our world-class service to this essential provider community."
The contract award is another example of Unisys continuing presence in the Medicaid management arena; Unisys currently provides Medicaid services for Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Oklahoma. Within the five states, Unisys processes 186 million health care claims annually and distributes $16 billion in payments to providers who service 3.2 million Medicaid recipients.
