CALABASAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 2002

National Technical Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:NTSC) (NTS), a leading provider of quality and conformance testing and managed services for a number of industries including aerospace, defense, telecommunications and information technology, announced today that the company has been awarded contracts valued over $333,000 in new business from various Telecom OEMs covering all three phases of Verizon's Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) compliance programs.

Under Phase I, NTS has been selected by Siemens ICN to perform witness and testing on the New Surpass HiQ9200 switch. The contract, valued at over $180,000, will be conducted over the next four months under NTS witness at their Center for Quality Engineering and Testing in Munich, Germany. GR63 Fire and Airborne contaminants testing will take place at the NTS Acton, MA facility.

Telect, headquartered in Liberty Lake, WA, has selected NTS to provide Phase II Passive Fiber Optic (PFOC) testing. A contract initially valued at $48,000 was awarded under the Phase II of Verizon's Program. Phase II allows NTS to witness testing at the OEM facility or perform testing at the new NTS PFOC Laboratory in Fullerton, CA. On this Telect program, all testing will take place at the NTS Fullerton, CA facility.

NTS has also contracted with Logic Storage Systems, of Boulder, CO to conduct NEBS testing valued at $105,000 under the Phase III Verizon ITL Program. This program will take place at the NTS Plano, TX facility.

NTS recognition by Verizon as an Independent Test Laboratory competent in all three phases of the program is allowing NTS to further expand its recognition as the source for testing in the United States.

NEBS compliance allows Verizon to use a single, uniform set of rules with which to evaluate all equipment to be placed in Verizon's network and the goal of the ITL program is to speed the delivery of products to market and to reduce costs by eliminating redundant testing for Verizon's telecommunications equipment vendors.
