GMS Earns ISO 9001 Registration.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 1999--

General Micro Systems Inc., (GMS) a worldwide manufacturer of embedded single-board computers and peripherals, today announced that it has earned ISO 9001 Registration from Underwriters Laboratories Inc.

The ISO 9000

Registration Series provides general quality management and assurance guidelines and quality system models that can be used by any type or size company anywhere in the world. The Geneva-based International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published the ISO 9000 series of standards for quality assurance in 1987. Its goal was to provide guidelines for consistent quality practices across international borders.

General Micro Systems' was found in compliance with ISO 9001: 1994 and given the following Standard Industry Code (SIC): 3672 (US): Printed Circuit Boards. As part of the ISO 9001 registration process, Underwriters Laboratories performed an onsite assessment, an examination of documented procedures and a survey of the General Micro Systems 'overall operations. To ensure continued compliance with ISO 9001 standards, Underwriters Laboratories will conduct routine surveillance audits.

ISO registration helps suppliers demonstrate their capabilities to meet quality requirements. It gives purchasers a higher degree of confidence that products and services delivered can continually meet their requirements. ISO 9001 provides that conformance to specified requirements is to be assured by the supplier during design, development, production, installation, and servicing.

"The ISO 9001 registration process has made General Micro Systems better than ever," said Benjamin Sharfi, president of General Micro Systems. "Not only are we providing the industry's most powerful and advanced single board computers, our customers are now assured that we meet the highest levels of quality and conformance to standards. The ISO 9001 compliance process was a good step forward for General Micro Systems and I am extremely proud of every employee who worked to meet the necessary requirements."

"Internal improvement, market positioning, supplier control and customer or regulatory requirements are all sound reasons to seek quality system registration, and General Micro Systems chose this path," said Gus Schaefer, Underwriters Laboratories' chief engineer of follow-up services. "Accepted by more than 90 countries around the world as a quality assurance benchmark, General Micro Systems' ISO registration has demonstrated its commitment to continuous process improvement."
