SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-Oct. 7, 1998--Solana Technology Development Corporation (STD) announced today that Global Music Outlet has signed a license agreement to utilize the company's Electronic DNA(R) audio watermarking system. The license enables GMO to employ Electronic DNA audio watermarking
GMO's first implementation of Electronic DNA will be its inclusion as a feature within E-Spot, the first system for delivering broadcast-quality radio spots and audio segments via the Internet, e-mail or modem that require no special hardware or software to play. Operated in partnership with Entertainment Communications Network, E-Spot Network (www.e-spotnetwork.com) integrates radio broadcast tracks into a single auto-play program that can deliver a 60-second radio spot in a file of less than 1.3 Mbytes. CBS Television (www.cbs.com) and West Glen Communications (www.westglen.com) are currently performing live trials of the E-Spot system.
E-Spot clients will be able to utilize Electronic DNA to seamlessly embed data within each radio spot that will allow its broadcast airplay to be monitored and logged by Electronic DNA decoding hardware that will be deployed in major media markets next year.
"Electronic DNA watermarks allow us to insert essential tags, such as ISCI codes or producer identifiers, into our E-Spots," said George Kopp, President of E-Spot Network. "Since these watermarks are inaudible and can survive even AM broadcasting, they are a welcome addition to our cutting-edge delivery device."
"The convenience and flexibility that the Electronic DNA system offers digital audio distribution systems, like E-Spot, make it a valuable addition to GMO's technology toolbox," said Anthony Stonefield, GMO's C.E.O. "Adding Electronic DNA watermarks to our Digital Audio Capsule delivery platform means that we may provide a host of auxiliary services, like performance tracking, to our clients."
Greg Hampton, Director of Business Development for Solana Technology Development commented, "We are gratified to have one of the pioneers of Internet music distribution as our latest licensee for Electronic DNA. This agreement will broaden further the foundation we have established for providing convenient access to Electronic DNA audio watermarking. E-Spot is a highly innovative product and we look forward to working with GMO as they continue to re-purpose key components of digital distribution technologies for creative business-to-business and consumer applications."
