SQL Server Magazine, a Penton Media publication, announced the winners of the 2003 Innovator Awards at this month's SQL Server Magazine Connections conference in Palm Springs, California. First place was awarded to Altan Arslan with the Turk Economy Bank of Istanbul, Turkey.
The annual Innovator Award competition recognizes people who work with Microsoft SQL Server and have created a technical solution to a problem or enhanced a program or system feature to improve performance or return on investment.
The top winner, Altan Arslan, received the SQL Server Innovator's Cup to keep for the next 12 months, a personalized pewter mug, and complimentary registration to the Palm Springs conference, including airfare and lodging.
Brian Moran, a Microsoft SQL Server MVP and Principal Mentor with Solid Quality Learning, presented the top award saying, "Altan Arslan's solution used a creative blending of database and XML technologies to solve a complex performance requirement in a heterogeneous systems environment."
First Runner-Up was awarded to Douglas McDowell with Intellinet, a 2002 Innovator Award Honorable Mention winner; Second Runner-Up went to Michael Ou with CallPlus Service Ltd.; and the Third Runner-Up was Paul Munkenbeck with Maritz Europa Ltd., a 2002 Innovator Award Runner-Up. Douglas McDowell's solution for Intellinet also recently won Microsoft's Certified Partner Business Intelligence Solution of the Year Award.
