The desktop and server operating system market has been confused recently by a number of new products, postponed products and vendor alliances. IBM and Microsoft now support competing 32-bit desktop operating systems; Microsoft has abandoned OS/2 in favor of Windows New Technology (NT) and a 32-bit Windows on DOS. IBM will try to bring new life to OS/2 with version 2.0, and the company has entered into an alliance with Apple Computer Inc to develop the Pink object-oriented operating system. Novell is joining with Digital Research to integrate client and server software in its NetWare networ
