SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 7, 1994--BusLogic, a leading supplier of high performance SCSI and RAID solutions, Monday announced CHANTAL RAID Software for NetWare, Release 5.0.
By adding significant new features to 5.0, BusLogic
has strengthened their position as the leading RAID software supplier. Some of the new features include support of the Advanced SCSI Programming Interface (ASPI), and the ability to boot from the disk array, thus eliminating the need for a separate boot-up drive. CHANTAL RAID Software, Release 5.0 is also the first RAID software to support NetWare 4.02.Another feature added to CHANTAL RAID Software, Release 5.0 is support for the ASPI protocol, a de facto industry standard programming interface. ASPI provides a common interface between operating systems, third-party software packages, and a wide variety of off-the-shelf storage devices and adapters.
With ASPI, SCSI host adapters in CHANTAL RAID software configurations can support other SCSI peripherals, such as CD-ROMs, scanners, photo CDs, tape backup devices and removable media. The adapters no longer need to be dedicated solely to disk drives, bringing the cost savings to the user, reseller or OEM.
"BusLogic's CHANTAL RAID Software provides an ideal and flexible software solution for OEMs and VARs building RAID subsystems. A key to this flexibility is that RAID software is bus independent. For example, when the software is coupled with a PCI SCSI adapter it provides a PCI RAID solution," said Julian Elliott, BusLogic's vice president of marketing.
"The new features of 5.0 extend the flexibility of RAID subsystems and offer a clear migration path for future versions of NetWare."
Other Software Features
CHANTAL RAID Software is Novell-certified and is fully compatible with NetWare 3.11 and higher. When the RAID disk array software is booted up, it automatically detects the version of NetWare resident on the server and tunes itself to that version.
The software is platform-independent, making it compatible with any PC bus, including the PCI bus architecture. Designed for ease-of-use, the software allows users to install and configure a disk array in just five minutes. This easy-to-use environment is created through a menu-driven user-friendly interface.
Support for multiple RAID levels, such as RAID 0 (striping), 1 (mirroring) and 5 (parity), or any combination of these, allows users to match their application needs for performance and fault tolerance in both single-user and multi-user environments. Up to four SCSI host adapters and 28 disk drives may be connected simultaneously.
