CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 11, 1999--
An OmniStat(tm) Management System Platform Enhancement
AM Communications, Inc (OTC:AMCM) introduces the Omni2000(tm) Management Software System at this year's Cable '99 NCTA Expo in Chicago, Illinois (Booth No. 4365). Also being introduced is the Scanning Ingress Monitoring System, an Omni2000 (tm) Software module upgrade for return path monitoring.
The Omni2000 Client-Server Management System is the primary user interface to AM's OmniStat(tm) Plant and Headend Management System. It is based on the Windows NT operating system and has been designed to run efficiently on just about any PC station.
The Omni2000 Software System has many user-friendly functions. It allows the user to view the status of the entire network in a single view as well as provides the ability to drill down to detailed readings for any specific network elements. It also provides a view of the system's alarm history, sorted and filtered to individual preferences. Omni2000's graphical user interface lets you easily operate control switches in network elements so you can remotely identify and isolate tricky network impairments, such as ingress.
Omni2000 software can be deployed modularly. When deployed it can be scaled to handle virtually any size network by simply adding additional software modules as the need arises. One such module is the Scanning Ingress Monitoring System (SIMS). The SIMS module monitors and analyzes the return RF spectrum from specific node areas.
The OmniStat(tm) SIMS Return Path Monitoring System is comprised of the Omni2000 SIMS software module and the SIMS headend monitoring agent. The information gathered by the SIMS agent is sent to the OmniStat Monitoring Control Unit (MCU) which facilitates communication with the Omni2000 client-server station.
The OmniStat SIMS application supports a flexible graphical mechanism for configuring alarm settings for many regions in the return spectrum. A 3-D spectrum analysis display allows logged spectrums to be viewed and analyzed with simple point and click operations. This display mechanism allows the user to quickly spot deterioration and alarm conditions.
Both the Omni2000 Software and the SIMS Ingress Monitoring Solutions are part of the OmniStat(tm) Plant and Headend Management System. OmniStat continuously monitors multiple critical equipment parameters and instantly reports events for attention and immediate action. Through effective monitoring and fault management functions, the OmniStat System enables operators to pinpoint trouble spots, minimize system downtime, and ensure network availability.
The advantages of AM's new Omni2000 Software System are two-fold: modularity and open standard based interfaces. The system's modularity allows an operator to buy what he/she needs when it is needed while protecting their investment. It is a simple "pay as you go" system. The openness advantage allows third party interfaces to be easily developed by AM or other third party vendors. The system is designed and built using industry standard interfaces to higher-level network management platforms.
"Our systems provide network operators with greater control over their network's performance levels and reliability, giving them a competitive edge in today's deregulated communications environment," said Harry Tankin, AM's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "The Omni2000(tm) Management Software System offers our customers user-friendly maneuverability, easy upgradeability, cost-effective deployment options, and most importantly - improvement to their network's reliability."
