South River Technologies today announced it has entered into an OEM partnership with Seattle, Washington-based Geospiza, Inc. to license its WebDrive(R) product. WebDrive is a South River Technologies file transfer client that uses a mapped drive letter to access remote files as if they were on a local computer.
Geospiza specializes in software systems for data management and analysis, to allow researchers, laboratory managers and technicians to get the most information out of their data. Researchers use Geospiza's Finch(R)-Server to capture data from laboratory instruments, store data files along with experimental information, distribute data through a web-based interface and export data for further analysis in a variety of formats.
Geospiza is using WebDrive to transfer data from DNA sequencing instruments to the Finch-Server database management system. WebDrive is also being used to transfer DNA sequencing chromatogram files from the Finch-Server to end user computers.
The advantage for Geospiza customers is they can centrally maintain large volumes of DNA sequence data and distribute copies to many scientists using the familiar interface native to the Windows Operating Systems. "WebDrive is ideal for us, because it reduces the variability and eliminates the many problems we have with different versions of Windows, browsers and networking," says Todd Smith, PhD, CEO of Geospiza. "WebDrive enhances our product offering by eliminating the troubleshooting inherent in legacy operating systems and browsers and reducing complexity by providing a single method for data transfer."
