Poll: Net purchasing is on the rise

More than half of 1,230 participants in the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show held in New York in November lean toward using the Internet for purchasing and procurement this year.

The poll was conducted by GoCo-op, a company that develops and hosts Internet-based procurement systems

and vertically integrated 132B trading communities.

The survey found that 57 percent of show attendees plan to conduct their company's purchasing and procurement on the Internet in the next 12 months. That represents a 67-percent increase over those meeting such needs online in 1999, GoCo-op says.

In addition, 91 percent of all hotel company respondents plan to meet up to 50 percent of their procurement needs online; 27 percent plan to spend at least a quarter of their procurement budget online.
