Sun unveils Java education portal.
INTERNET BUSINESS NEWS-(C)1995-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
The Java Teaching Innovations Portal, an online resource to help students and teachers use Java technology, has been unveiled by Sun Microsystems Inc, a technology developer.
The portal includes several sections offering a curriculum developed by educators to enable schools to further student knowledge and more effectively incorporate Java technology into education programmes. The sections are said to include lesson plans and activities, special projects and downloadable gaming activities. In addition they provide introductory presentations giving guidance on integrating Java curriculum into technology education and showing the relevance of Java to under-represented populations.
The portal will reportedly also link to Sun's Global Education Learning Community (GELC), a meeting place for educators, researchers and students. It is hoped the portal will support the GELC's objective to improve global education, by providing freely available, web-based content such as assessments and curriculum resources for teachers, students and parents.
The portal is to feature case studies from the Java Grant Program, which includes participating schools such as the Denver Public Schools in Denver, Youth Tech Entrepreneurs in Boston, Massachusetts and the Eastside Union High School District in San Jose, California.
