Broadband was introduced in July, providing consumers with a choice of three packages, including up to 8Mb/s download speeds, free Internet voice and video calls and a suite of security software, with the Home Hub.

The hub supports BT's full range of services, including Total Broadband and Broadband Talk, connecting wirelessly to PCs and other broadband devices, with the ability to update automatically for future services.

The company said it now has 32% of the total DSL broadband market, with sales of the Hub exceeding 350,000 and a base of over 650,000 residential customers using VoIP services.

BT claimed that the broadband market is consolidating, with customers deciding between using a basic broadband service, or a total service which provides more.
