Navman's PDAs to feature NAVTECH map data. (Software).
Navigation Technologies, provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation, Internet/wireless applications and business solutions, announced that its NAVTECH map data will be used in Navman's PDA-based application that transforms the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC into a self-contained navigation system. The Navman GPS 3420 bundle's PDA software NAVTECH maps for North America and a GPS receiver sleeve with a built-in Type I & II CF slot to enable the Compaq iPAQ to provide a complete self-contained navigation system. By downloading the needed map area from a computer to the iPAQ or CompactFlash card, users have access to route calculations and directions via text and full cartographic display. In addition, the application is voice supported to reduce driver distraction when used in a vehicle. The solution offers an alternative to dedicated in-vehicle navigation systems or other standalone navigation products. Navman will offer biannual map updates for the product, with the first map update free of charge. The Navman GPS 3400 is a navigational solution available in European markets.
The Navman GPS 3420 comes with a compact GPS sleeve, street mapping software, in-car mounting kit and a vehicle power adapter. Its design includes a built-in Type II CompactFlash[TM] slot for added functionality as well as software expandability. The Navman GPS 3420 is available for purchase at electronics stores nationwide. Navman's street mapping software can be purchased separately.
