Insignia's Accelerated Java Solution To Be Included In Lineo Embedix SDK.

Insignia Solutions and Lineo, the leading developer of embedded Linux system software, jointly announced an agreement for Lineo to distribute the Jeode platform in the Lineo Embedix SDK, a software developer kit for OEMs of embedded Linux solutions. This agreement is part of Insignia's strategy

to make its accelerated Jeode platform the premier Java solution for Linux-based Internet appliances and embedded devices.

The Jeode platform is Insignia's accelerated implementation of Sun Microsystems' PersonalJava and EmbeddedJava specifications tailored for Internet appliances and embedded devices. The Lineo Embedix SDK provides OEMs with embedded Linux source code, tools, libraries and third-party embedded technologies and applications.

"Embedded Linux developers want to deploy Java," says Bryan Sparks, CEO of Lineo Inc. "The Jeode platform delivers the balance of performance and predictability required by OEMs."

According to International Data Corp. (IDC), Linux was the fastest-growing server operating environment in 1998, growing more than 190 percent in that year alone and capturing 15.8 percent of the market segment for server operating systems. IDC research also predicts that by 2002, more than 55 million handheld and notebook-style Internet appliance devices will be shipped, and that by 2005, shipments of these appliances will exceed shipments of PCs.
