The bandwagon of large IP-telephony (IPT) suppliers who have integrated their systems with Microsoft is filled with the who's who in IPT: Alcatel, Avaya, Cisco, Genesys (which is owned by Alcatel), Mitel, NEC, Nortel and Siemens are all partnering with Microsoft to offer integrated call-control capabilities

with Microsoft's Live Communications Server (LCS), Office Communicator 2005 desktop client and Office Communicator Mobile (see "Decoding LCS, Office Communicator And UCPs").

While most have taken advantage of Microsoft LCS "hooks," that is, the application program interfaces (APIs) that enable the IPT and LCS to exchange commands and data, Siemens and Mitel have gone further and also integrated their product, marketing and sales strategies with Microsoft.

The LCS ecosystem momentum isn't limited to PBX integration, either. For example:

* Alcatel's Genesys Labs, a call center software company, has partnered with Microsoft to develop the Genesys Enterprise Telephony Software (GETS) platform to offer additional computertelephony integration features.
