Cadkey Inc. of Windsor, Conn., has announced a merger agreement with Varimetrix Corp., a Florida-based developer of parametric surface/solid modeling software for high-end CAD/CAM/CAE applications. Varimetrix will remain in Palm Bay, Fla., as a unit of Cadkey. Varimetrix CEO Forrest Blair will become a vice president of Cadkey. "Adding the Varimetrix state-of-the-art software to our extensive product family makes Cadkey the only CAD company to offer solutions that span the complete range of desktop 2-D and 3-D CAD/CAM/CAE capabilities," says CADkey CEO Malcolm Davies.

Separately, Cadkey announced that the DL-Xpress/CK high performance graphics device driver from Vibrant Graphics Inc. will be integrated with the company's family of DOS based CAD products. Headquartered in Austin, Tex., Vibrant develops graphics products for the CAD and advanced operating systems markets.

Cadkey is also adding advanced surface modeling capabilities to its baseline product family under an exclusive marketing agreement with FastSURF Company. FastSURF will be bundled with the current CADKEY CAD system, which will retail for $3,995. FastSURF creates and edits true surfaces and uses numerous techniques for displaying, including wire mesh, polygons and shaded methods.
