NAI Labs, the research arm of security and antivirus software maker
Network Associates Inc., has landed two new federal government contracts
to develop next generation intrusion detection technology that will
monitor and protect against both physical intrusions as well as computer
network intrusions.
Under the two awards funded by the Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency (DARPA), NAI Labs will develop a new security
architecture for sensor network protection as well as develop and
enhance intrusion detection technology within DARPA's "Active
Networks" initiative. Under the first contract, NAI will design a
comprehensive communications security architecture to protect the
network of physical sensor devices (acoustic, seismic, infrared, visible
light, motion, humidity, temperature, etc.) that is a part of
DARPA's Sensor Information Technology (SensIT) program. The second
contract is a part of DARPA's "Active Networks"
initiative which integrates network applications, allowing them to
actively communicate with each other in real time.
