Deere & Co. and Bell Equipment of Richards Bay, South Africa, have announced a strategic alliance giving Deere an equity investment in Bell and exclusive rights to distribute Bell-manufactured articulated dump trucks in the Americas. Deere will sell and service trucks that are used for off-highway
Bell already distributes trucks through some Deere dealers in North America, and Bell is Deere's construction equipment distributor in South Africa. The alliance strengthens this relationship, with Deere using the trucks to complement its excavator line and Bell gaining financial resources for expansion.
The two companies started working together three years ago. The agreement includes distribution of articulated dump trucks only, not Bell's forestry products. Sales will begin in fall, 1999. The trucks will continue to be manufactured at Bell's facility in Richards Bay, South Africa. (More information can be found elsewhere in this issue.)
