Look for a low cost, scaleable system

as UK manufacturers come under increasing pressure from Eastern competition, HRS managing director Peter Roost is in no doubt of the role that his Jobshop ERP system is playing to help them optimise resources, manage costs and deliver key information for decision-making.

Here's his response

to some of the key challenges manufacturers are facing:

How is Eastern competition affecting HRS's customers? "It is a major challenge for UK SME manufacturing companies to remain competitive in increasingly global markets. At HRS1 we believe that a fully implemented Jobshop system - costing 15,000 for five users and offering advanced functionality in the key areas of manufacturing - is a significant factor in enabling users to compete through direct productivity improvements and lower IT infrastructure costs."

What functionality requirements are users demanding? "We find that customers are extremely knowledgeable regarding the software they need, as opposed to some enhanced functionality from other packages that they will never use. Jobshop excels in providing advanced capabilities in the core areas of SME manufacturing systems where the emphasis is on providing value where it is needed, rather than extra functionality where it is not."

Does the competitive nature of your customers' markets necessitate a flexible approach to funding IT projects? "While the majority of customers choose the traditional capital method for financing IT projects, we now find a requirement to provide alternative financing methods. At HRS, we are able to offer rental, leasing and ASP packages for Jobshop that are attracting more interest as our markets develop."

How can your customers protect their existing investment in IT? "With Jobshop, they have a modern product capable of integration with either legacy or new peripheral systems. For example, an implementation of Jobshop protects the existing investment in financial modules, as we support direct interfaces to most of the leading accounts packages."

How do you expect your business to develop? "Our success is built upon a value proposition of competitive pricing, low implementation costs and high quality. We will continue to grow organically in the UK and internationally through distribution channels."
