RDC and Dynatech demonstrate complete wireless networking solution.

WASHINGTON, ComNet '95, Booth #1218--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 1995-- RDC Communications Ltd., the developer of innovative mobile wireless local area network (WLAN) technologies, and Dynatech Communications, a pioneer in the wide-area connectivity market, Tuesday demonstrated an integrated LAN/WAN

networking solution that delivers cost-effective, reliable and seamless data communications.

The ComNet exhibit of RDC's PortLAN(TM) interoperating with Dynatech's DynaStar(TM) remote access products illustrates how, with limited LAN/WAN routing hardware WLANs can easily integrate a complete range of wide-area services.

At the branch office level, PortLAN provides the freedom of mobile wireless computing by utilizing a unique, Israeli-developed Spread Spectrum Frequency Hopping (FHSS) radio technology that allows users to access their local corporate networks from up to 1,000 feet away from the local server.

The DynaStar 100, 100I, 200 and 500 multiservice LAN/WAN access routers deliver wide-area services including Frame Relay, ISDN, ATM X.25, SNA and T1, and streamline local area functions such as network management and dial-in/out tasks.

"This demonstration highlights the growing power and sophistication of wireless office networks," said Pinhas Romik, president and chief executive officer of RDC Communications. "Dynatech's customers can now efficiently and reliably expand the boundaries of their networks, easily obtaining a full range of LAN/WAN services."

Alex Saunders, Dynatech Communication's vice president of business development stated: "The consumer demand for all these network services must remain our top priority. By combining Dynatech's highly-integrated remote access DynaStar products with RDC's innovative wireless technology, we are able to transparently connect mobile computer users with the enterprise network.

"An installation of this type makes the remote office and the mobile worker an integral part of the client/server computer infrastructure."

PortLAN consists of a lightweight radio with an ISA or PCMCIA interface card that can be attached to a desktop or laptop PC, and an Access Point that serves as a bridge to the Ethernet backbone and network management software.

Because PortLAN is based on FHSS radio technology developed for military applications, it is immune to radio frequency interference and allows operation of numerous WLANs on the same frequency band. Additionally, its specially designed Medium Access Control (MAC) layering gives PortLAN an extremely efficient and reliable networking protocol.

The PortLAN standard user unit has a suggested retail price of $695 complete with a PCMCIA or ISA interface card. The Access Point, including a PC platform, starts at $2,100. Overall pricing depends on network configuration. Pricing is additional for network management software.

RDC Communications Ltd. was established in 1992 to develop products for the rapidly growing wireless and mobile computing markets. RDC targets users of portable computers and laptops who require mobility in their jobs.
