SuSE Linux AG has taken a novel approach with its SuSE Linux Firewall on CD standalone firewall packages. The product leverages hardware features to assure network security.

A firewall based on the software boots exclusively from a CD; since users can't change the data on a standard CD-ROM, the core operating systems and applications are in vulnerable to outside tampering. Additionally, user-defined settings are stored on a floppy disk. Adminstrators are encouraged to enable the write-protect tab to give the data similar security.
