Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Network Products Division (TAIS NPD) Monday introduced a new suite of network security-based software that brings the Virtual Private Network (VPN) environment to small- to medium-sized businesses at an unprecedented price point.

Toshiba's new CryptoGate software is the first total solution that employs industry standards to provide secure mobile access to corporate data resources across private intranets and the public Internet.

"Businesses of every size rely on the Internet to communicate with employees, customers and business partners, so reliable and secure data transfer is essential," said Mark Ryvola, managing director of TAIS NPD. "With CryptoGate, Toshiba not only brings to market the only open standards-based solution, but the only cost-effective solution."

Priced at only $995 for the server, including complete key-management and a 10-client license, CryptoGate brings full functionality without sacrificing performance or security.

"Other VPN-labeled solutions are priced in the $4,000 to $12,000 range for the server license and a 10 to 50 user license, a cost that is prohibitive to most small- to medium-sized businesses," said Ryvola. "We've targeted our solution primarily to the 16 million small businesses that comprise the largest part of the American economic engine."

Developed to move confidential data securely across the public Internet, Toshiba's CryptoGate is the first product to provide a secure dynamic VPN combining Mobile-IP and IP-Security functionality. Unlike previous static VPN solutions, which could only guarantee security from designated locations, Toshiba's advanced software utilizes dynamic VPN technology to gopping and substitution of IP packets with strong 168-bit encryption.
