MELBOURNE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 2001
Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a leading provider of network security solutions to the U.S. Government for more than 25 years, and Tech Data Corporation (Nasdaq:TECD), today announced that an agreement has been signed that allows Tech Data to distribute the Harris family of Security Threat Avoidance Technology (STAT(R)) products.
"This agreement gives us a critical commercial sales channel that is necessary to successfully compete in today's network security products market," said Lilo Newberry, director, STAT Operations. "As the leading distributor of IT products and services, Tech Data can open thousands of doors, allowing us to expand our reach into the fast growing security industry."
Under terms of the agreement, Tech Data will distribute STAT Scanner, a vulnerability assessment tool, and STAT Neutralizer(TM), an intrusion prevention tool, to its global re-seller network, which includes more than 100,000 companies. Resellers within the network will in turn be authorized to offer the tools to each of their customers as part of their individual portfolios.
"Our customers look to Tech Data for value-added products and services that enable their businesses to grow in an increasingly competitive marketplace," said Tamra Muir, vice president of software marketing. "This product offering fills an immediate need as the demand for security solutions has intensified since the recent attacks."
Harris Corporation is embarking upon a channel distribution strategy that significantly expands its market opportunities, reaching thousands of resellers using the distributors' wealth of value-added services. Through Tech Data's resellers, Harris Corporation's security solutions will be readily available to a host of businesses, from Fortune 100 companies to small and emerging enterprises.
Scanner software assesses and automatically repairs more than 1,200 different types of network security vulnerabilities in the Windows NT/2000, Linux, and Unix operating platforms. It also tests for the presence of the very latest software patches for Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000; Internet Information Server (IIS) 4 and IIS 5; and Media Player, Outlook and Event Viewer. These patches are key to preventing denial of service attacks, unauthorized access, or privilege elevation.
Neutralizer software is behavior-based, taking a whole new approach to preventing damaging actions in a computer system. Neutralizer prevents damage from malicious code, human error, and other behaviors -- whether they originate from internal or external sources.
