SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 2003

Enterprise-scalable behavioral threat detection system adds active

protection through existing network infrastructure technologies

Mazu Networks,

a leading provider of behavioral threat protection solutions for enterprise and government networks, today announced the introduction of its protection support module for Mazu's flagship PowerSecure(TM) solution. The new module incorporates open interfaces and leverages PowerSecure's advanced network traffic intelligence capabilities to add behavioral threat protection functionality to a range of in-place network infrastructure technologies.

Introduced in November of 2002, PowerSecure was the industry's first enterprise-scalable behavioral threat detection system. By rapidly collecting threat information from network devices and correlating threat data across the enterprise, PowerSecure is unique in its ability to protect against unknown network threats. It gives network security professionals that real-time, actionable information they need to proactively detect and mitigate threats such as new worms and malicious "trusted" users. The addition of the protection support module takes this leadership position one step further. The module enables corporate and government customers to leverage their existing network infrastructure technologies, such as switches, routers, and firewalls, by making them integrated components of new, active enterprise security architectures.

"We are seeing enterprises rapidly adopt next-generation security architectures that tightly integrate with deployed network infrastructure to prevent the proliferation of undesirable traffic," said Eric Ogren, the Yankee Group's senior analyst, Security Solutions & Services. "Systems that intelligently coordinate the functions of existing infrastructure and security technologies to draw a network-wide view of normal behavior, and do so in a cohesive architecture, are very compelling to enterprise customers."

"Mazu's goal is to help its customers significantly improve their security postures so that they can better manage the growing risks to their organizations posed by new blended threats," said Jim Melvin, Mazu Networks' president and CEO. "Our customers want a unified and manageable way to deal with these threats and attacks. Solving this problem across the enterprise clearly requires a unified and integrated approach. That is exactly what the new module offers."

PowerSecure with the protection support module operates on a three-part model: distributed data collection, centralized event detection, and distributed threat mitigation. It combines network traffic data from PowerSecure sensors with data gathered from other RMON2-compliant network probes and sensors. After capturing input from varied devices, PowerSecure generates accurate and actionable threat information in real time. Using that information, the protection support module recommends effective mitigation actions, such as traffic filtering, can simulate the effect of those actions prior to implementation, and can be used to update policy at the embedded devices. The addition of the protection support module completes the end-to-end process by enabling network security staffs to direct mitigation actions across an array of internally- and externally-facing security technologies, such as firewalls, routers, and switches.

PowerSecure - the Best in Behavioral Threat Protection

Mazu's PowerSecure(TM) solutions use powerful, real-time statistical traffic analysis and connection-based traffic modeling to detect and characterize malicious activities occurring anywhere on a network. PowerSecure solutions also provide highly accurate packet filtering technologies that enable network operations and security professionals to quickly contain and mitigate all attack types --- internal, external, known and unknown.

Based on the ability to analyze detailed network traffic data in real time, Mazu's solutions enable companies to implement behavioral threat protection -- with equally effective security for the core and perimeter computing assets in the network. Mazu's solutions compliment other security products, such as anti-virus programs, firewalls and intrusion detection systems. They enable organizations to maximize their overall security to ensure business continuity and employee productivity.
