LaCie has introduced what it claims to be the first DVD drive combining the functionalities of DVD-R, DVD-RW and CD-RW drives and offering FireWire connectivity.

The LaCie DVDRW drive, which can be used to store and deliver digital data, video and audio, records to 4.7GB DVD-R general use disks at 2x speed (2.6MB/s) and to 4.7GB rewritable DVD disks at 1x speed. It also provides a 6x (7.8MB/s) read performance for DVD-R and DVD-ROM disks.

In addition the DVDRW works as a universal reader as it can read CD-ROM, CD-Audio, CD-R, CD-RW and Video-CD disks, as well as DVD-R and DVD-ROM disks.

The new drive will be available in October, priced at GBP649+VAT.
