Kofax's Hardware / Software Solution Provides Tools to Scan-Enable Enterprise Business Applications by Leveraging Services Oriented Architecture (SOA)

IRVINE, Calif. -- Kofax (LSE:DCM), the world's largest information capture vendor, today announced the general availability of the Kofax Document Scan Server. With the introduction of this solution, organizations can now add scanning capabilities to any enterprise business application without the need for additional software or disruption of their current business process.

The Kofax Document Scan Server was created to address the growing need for organizations to digitally capture documents at the point of entry into their business process. Previously, a solution of this kind required specialized software and drivers to be installed on each computer. This method commonly leads to increased administrative costs because IT staff must set up administrative rights, train workers on the new software application and perform timely updates and troubleshooting.

"With this unique solution, a company can now scan-enable any existing application without an increase in IT administrative costs or the need to add additional pieces of software to their computer system," says Rob Klatell, chief executive officer of Kofax's parent company, DICOM group. "The Document Scan Server is an innovative technology solution that makes scanning a service that IT is comfortable with by leveraging SOA and reducing deployment, support and training costs across the board with minimal disruption to the IT environment."

There are three major features that comprise the Document Scan Server: A Software Development Kit (SDK), a simple desktop appliance and a centralized Management Console. The Software Development Kit leverages Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) to allow a developer to integrate scanning into an existing or new application no matter the operating system or programming language.

This services-based document integration provides a tighter integration of scanning to a core application.
