Tech Security Breaches Are Worsening, Industry Group Survey Says
I work in ecommerce, and many merchants fail to see the urgency of this situation. The credit card companies have standards for how data is to be stored on servers, which are the PCI Standards (see http://www.pcicomplianceguide.org for more info). If a merchant is hosting with a company that is not PCI Certified, they risk fines and a possible ban from credit card transactions if that data is breached. Most merchants are not certified. Here's a link with more info and the list of PCI certified companies: http://volusion.com/tour/page-10.asp If merchants take PCI standards seriously, all online merchants benefit from the higher level of security online. In areas of weak signal, a cell phone repeater can help. For traveling sales personal in-car repeaters can boost signal, reduce dropped calls and extend batter life. In areas of completely no signal, chances are a cell repeater won't help, in which case it is good for businesses to be aware of the problem. Sam www.repeaterstore.com ...

Six mobile device security vulnerabilities you should address- NOW!
To whom it may concern, I called your reception desk phone # today - 775-332-8800 between the hours of 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Both the receptionist and the person I was forwarded to in the new accounts department were very very rude to me. I was hung up on maybe three or four times and noone would ever give a first name. If you could, please listen to the recordings between these times. My name is Jeremy and all I wanted to do is set up the Enhanced Payroll.. Thanks for your time and I would appreciate it if you could look into this for me. This type of rude behavior will make someone not want to call the quickbooks phonelines anymore. Thanks, Jeremy Colley ...

I'm trying to get all these crazy business ideas out of my head (my firends family and co-workers are sick of hearing them) and tell stories at the same time. I don't have the expertise for most of these, but maybe others do. Sometimes humourous, sometimes serious, definitely out of the box: http://businessideahaystack.blogspot.com/ ...

Wireless carriers are also watching the customer complaints on this web site. Plans are in the works for carriers to comment on each of the 18,000 locations in the Dead Cell Zones database. Cingular has taken the leadership in this area. Do a search for Cingular in Kansas City and St. Louis.

Russell, In addition to my laptop, I carry my video iPod and add numerous podcasts on topics I enjoy. I can watch video or listen to music or podcasts. Makes the time fly by (pun intended). My headphones enable me to supress noise and listen. Next, I carry a flash drive. Great for transferring presentations and files from my computer to a co-workers w/o having to e-mail them. Next 2 books, one business related for the outbound flight, one trashy novel for the trip home. My cell phone with an ac adapter. Regards, Glenn ...

Excellent idea. My wife's Thinkpad 600 is slower than Xmas, and the free spyware isn't working. As cheap as I am, I'll try this. Regards, Glenn ...

Thanks Russell! I always wondered about AdAware. I'd heard it was so great but things just kept coming back. I guess you get what you pay for and I will glady pay $30 for something that actually works.

Anyone that says "VoIP is not about cost reduction" is lying. VoIP has only started to really take off because of Vonage in the consumer/retail space and Skype in the student/kiddie space. Both of these services are about free or cheap. In the business space, early adopters are primarily reaping the rewards of cheaper phone service. The reason big, old companies like Avaya (it's really still Lucent/Bell and not a nimble company) say it's not about cheap is because they are still charging enterprise/rip-off prices for their gear and need to fool people into buying their overpriced stuff. Look around and the truth is that 99% of VoIP implementations are "plain vanilla". There is no magic next generation features. Just plain ole telephone calls and voicemail. If they want us to start thinking there is newtech here that adds more value than just lower cost, they gotta stop the vaporware and start really providing something new besides just another way to make a phone call.
